Leonard Pientok

November 27, 1928 — January 9, 2018

Leonard T. Pientok, 89, of Arcadia, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at St. Anne's Extended Healthcare in Winona.

Leonard was born on November 27, 1928, in the town of Burnside, rural Independence, to Thomas and Catherine (Mueller) Pientok. As a member of the "Magnificent 5", as the brothers were called, Leonard grew up the "farmer way" valuing his faith, family, and hard work. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1951 until his discharge in 1957. On February 27, 1954, Leonard was united in marriage to Lucille Buchholz at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Independence. Together they farmed in American Valley and raised three children. Leonard loved working on the farm, whether it be in the fields or in the shop on John Deere farm equipment. Leonard was always teaching something to someone, but never stopped learning himself. There wasn't a manual on the farm that went unread or directions that weren't followed. He never stopped working, as farmers don't retire, they just move on to different fields. He was a jokester with a great sense of humor, and enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family. Leonard was a member of Holy Family Parish, served on the Arcadia Coop Board, and will be remembered as being a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, adopted father, mentor, neighbor and friend.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lucille; 2 daughters, Judy (Pat) Grzadzielewski of Arcadia and Debbie (Dave) Baker of Cochrane; son, Rick (Pam) Pientok of Fountain City; 5 grandchildren, Jackie Engel, Wendy (Jeff) McCoy, Becky (Darrin Loewenhagen) Sobota, Josh (Kaycee) Grzadzielewski, and BJ (Diana Kilroy) Baker; 6 great-grandchildren, Jackson and Tyrus McCoy, Deklyn, Landon, and Benson Grzadzielewski, and Liam Baker; brothers, Bernard (Adeline) Pientok, Ted Pientok, Tom (Cleo) Pientok, and Lloyd (Jan) Pientok; sisters, Grace Roskos and Ethel (Jack) Sobotta; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends and neighbors, Doug Sokup, Mike Sokup, Dennis Rossa, John Lisowski, Dan Sobotta.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Margaret Pientok; nieces, Kay and Cindy Pientok; and a nephew, Steve Pientok.
