Gerd Kuhrt

June 12, 1944 — March 2, 2022

Gerd Dieter Kuhrt, of Arcadia, WI, ended his battle with cancer on March 2, 2022, at his residence with his family present.

Gerd, the youngest of five children and son of Gustav Richard Bruno Kuhrt and Anna Frieda
Gertrud Kuhrt (nee Fourmont) was born in Berlin, Germany on June 12, 1944.
Gerd grew up in a divided Germany and watched as the wall was built between the west and
east sides of Berlin. When he was just 21 years old, Gerd moved to the United States to live
near his sister and "to see what [the United States] is all about". Shortly thereafter, he was
drafted and served in the US Army during the Vietnam war. He was stationed near the famous
Cu Chi tunnels in Ho Chi Minh City.

Gerd was known around the Arcadia area as "Dick the German plumber" and for being a hard
worker and seemingly hard to work for. There was no one like Gerd. With the slight twinkle in his
eye and the way his lips would hint at a smile, Gerd enjoyed a very dry sense of humor and
quick wit. For those who did not know him, they would think him a curmudgeon; others knew
better.

In addition to his work, Gerd was an avid outdoorsman, with an affinity for duck hunting and
downhill skiing. He traveled as much as he could and made the most of the life that he had.
Gerd's greatest joys and comfort were his two (2) daughters, Marci and Karina. Gerd used to
joke about how he needed to keep an eye on them to make sure that they were doing what they
were supposed to be doing.

Gerd is survived by his sister: Monika (Peter) Galler; two (2) loving daughters: Marci K. K.
Iverson, and Karina (Sean) O'Brien; his favorite (only) granddaughter: Leita O'Brien;
brother-in-law: Bernard Kriesel; and nephew: Guido Galler. He was preceded in death by his
parents; his brothers: Gunther and Verner Kuhrt; sister: Hildegard Kriesel; and son-in-law: Derek Iverson.

A celebration of life will be held on March 13th, 2022, at Riverland Energy, from 12:00 noon to 3:00 PM.
