Eugene (Gene) Gerold Gunderson, age 87, of Arcadia passed away Sunday, February 20, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.
Gene was born on December 2, 1934, to Palmer and Ida (Risen) Gunderson in the town of Naples in Buffalo County, WI.
On April 11, 1958, Gene was married to Diane Thibedeau in the Little Brown Church in Nashwa, Iowa.
Gene was a graduate from Eleva High School in 1952. After school he enlisted in the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1953. He was a member of the Korean Conflict. Gene attended the Minnesota School of Business for a short time and then began working for Wisconsin Produce in Eleva, WI. He then became an employee of the US Grading Service for a few years and then transferred to the USDA Inspection Service. Gene worked as a USDA Poultry Inspector in Arcadia since 1960, retiring from the USDA in 2000. He celebrated 43 years of service with the USDA. Gene loved to trout fish, and hunt deer, ducks and pheasants.
Gene was a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge until its closure.
Gene is survived by his children: Steve (Diane) Gunderson of Onalaska, Linda Schock of Appleton, Mike (Tracy) Gunderson of Trempealeau and Lori (Bill) Schaffner of Trempealeau; 8 grandchildren, TJ (Amanda) Schock, Tyler Schock, Travis Schock, Eric (Liza) Gunderson, Katie (Jacob) Waddell, Sam Schaffner, Kody Gunderson and Ciera Gunderson; 4 great grandchildren, Tharren and Taylor Schock, Elia and Emery Gunderson; two brothers, Phillip (Esther) Gunderson of Oklahoma and Stanley Gunderson of Eleva, one sister June Schmitt of Augusta and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers; Clayton, Algor and Ellsworth, 1 sister Rebecca and his wife, Diane.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 25th from 4 to 6 p.m. at Wozney-Killian Funeral Home and will conclude with military honors. Burial will be a later date.
