Emmalene "Emmy" Irene Nelson, 86, of Galesville, WI passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022, at Grandview Care Center in Blair, WI under the care of St. Croix Hospice.
Emmy was born on August 3, 1935, in Austin, MN to Ernest and Esther (Hanson) Nelson. After graduating from high school, she married Glen Bawek. Together they raised 7 children. They lived in Iowa before moving to Arcadia where they owned and operated Bawek's Shoe Store. Emmy and Glen later divorced.
Emmy was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Galesville. She enjoyed square dancing and roller skating (in her younger years), as well as cooking and baking for her family. She later found a real love for poetry, and throughout the years entered and won (secretly) many poetry awards. Later in life she enjoyed swimming at the YMCA in Winona, MN.
Emmalene is survived by her children: Margo (Dr. Scott) Bautch of Wausau, WI, Rebecca (Ted) Ankrum of Ham Lake, MN, Craig (Lynnelle) Bawek of Arcadia, WI, Bradley (Lori) Bawek of Lake Elmo, MN, David (Dena) Bawek of Spring Valley, WI, and daughter-in-law Carol Bawek of Arcadia, WI; siblings: Ernestine Hyland (her twin) of Clearwater, FL, Estelle (Michael) Hesseldenz of Carlinville, IL, Ellen (James) Louvier of Carlinville, IL, and Eugene Nelson of Austin, MN. In addition, she has 19 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two sons Justin Bawek (10-12-2005) and Jeffery Bawek (5-3-2020), as well as her sister, Evelyn Cook, and her parents.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Arcadia, WI at Holy Family Parish with officiation by Reverend Arturo Vigueras. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in rural Arcadia, WI.
