Titus Kupietz

January 2, 1926 — January 27, 2015

Titus Anthony Kupietz, 89, of Dodge, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on January 27, 2015, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI. He was taken home to meet his son, grandson and Savior.
Titus was born to Joseph and Mary (Sobotta) Kupietz on January 2, 1926, in Arcadia, WI. He attended St. Stanislaus Catholic School in Arcadia.
Titus joined the United States Army on July 28, 1944, and was a Private First Class in the 77th Infantry Division WW II Okinawa, serving as a rifleman and truck driver. He was Honorably Discharged on August 8, 1946. He earned many medals while serving his country. He was presented with the Hometown Hero Award in Arcadia, WI on May 8, 2008. He was a member of the Tickfer-Erickson Legion Post 17, VFW Post 10671 in Arcadia, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and a devote member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Creek, WI.
He was united in marriage to Florence Mertes of Bluff Siding, WI on January 10, 1950, at St. Josephs Church in Winona, MN. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with family at the Golden Frog in Fountain City, where Titus and Florence first met.
After serving his Country, Titus was employed by Daniel Walski Trucking. He became a Draw Bridge Operator in Winona, MN working for the Chicago Northwestern Rail Road, from 1950 to 1970, at which time it was no longer operable. He then went to work at Warner and Swayzee (Badger Construction) in Winona, MN until retiring at the age of 64.
Titus was a member of the Arcadia County Club, where he was an avid golfer. He enjoyed teaching high school students how to golf. He loved to Polka dance and attended many Polka Fests with Florence. It was thought that they wore skates because of how effortlessly they glided across the dance floor. Some of his favorite past times included: golfing, dancing, playing solitaire, going on car rides to look for deer, going to the Casinos, playing cards, shaking dice and spending time with his family.
Titus drove to Centerville, WI daily to "Toads Cove" where he enjoyed having coffee and sharing laughter with his friends, neighbors and Veteran "family".
Titus is survived by his wife of 65 years: Florence (Mertes) Kupietz of Pine Creek, 7 children: Diane (Eugene) Bagniewski of Fountain City, Duane Kupietz of Dodge, Debra (Mark Woychik) Kamrowski of Arcadia, Dennis (Sheila Waters) Kupietz of Dodge, Daryl (Nancy Bjorge) Kupietz of Arcadia, Doreen Kupietz of Winona, Darlene (Michael) Rhude of Rochester, MN; 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 sister: Magdalene Klein of Trempealeau; 1 brother: Joe (Marie) Kupietz of Dodge; and many nieces and nephews.
