Michael “Mike” G. Klimek, 61, of Holmen and formerly of Arcadia, died peacefully surrounded by his family at home on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, under the care of St. Croix Hospice.
Mike was born on July 18, 1963, to Joan (Kokott) Lyons and Gus Klimek and raised in Minneapolis/St. Paul area. After highschool, Mike enlisted and served proudly in the United States Army and National Guard. He always considered his time in the service one of his greatest accomplishments, next to becoming a Grandpa to the light of his life, Dale. Mike was united in marriage to Julie Konkel at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Arcadia, and the couple was blessed with 35 years, their daughter, Nicolette, and her husband, Ryan, who he loved as a son. He was employed at Ashley Furniture before becoming a machinist at Trane Company, where he worked until his retirement. Mike’s generosity was evident through his random acts of kindness, always doing for others, donating selflessly or helping a complete stranger in need without ever looking for recognition or a favor in return. You could always count on Mike for a good laugh with his jokes and tricks, and rarely was he seen without a diet Mountain Dew in his hand. He was an expert marksman and enjoyed collecting guns, playing golf and cribbage, cheering on the Vikings or anyone playing the Packers, but mostly spending time with his family. Through all of his bouts with illness, including surviving a brain tumor, Mike stayed positive and upbeat, if for nothing else but to pick on Julie, shoot the breeze with his friends, or spoil the living hell out of Dale. Every new ailment was met with stubbornness and the will to live life to the fullest. His family always laughed that he had nine lives, but he more than surpassed that. He always said every day above ground was a good day. His contagious smile and even bigger heart, will continue to live on in the memories of his family and friends.
Mike is survived by his wife: Julie; daughter and son-in-law: Nicolette and Ryan Johnson; grandson: Dale Michael; father: Gus (Angie) Klimek; stepfather: George Lyons; brothers: Matt (Samantha) Lyons and David Klimek; sisters: Michelle Kendall, Maria Windt, Heather (Paul) Dauffenbach, and Dana Nevill; brothers-in-law: Pete (Kathy) Konkel, Tony (Mary Ann) Konkel, Bob (Diane) Konkel, Frank (Carrie) Konkel, and Joe (Mary Beth) Konkel; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother: Joan Lyons; brother: Keith in infancy; step mother Denise Klimek and in-laws: Roman and Anna Konkel.
Special thank you to St. Croix hospice, especially Grace Corlis and Heidi Antonneau.
