Mary Martha Nelson, 81, of Rice Lake and formerly of Arcadia died on Friday, December 4, 2015, at Heritage Manor in Rice Lake. Mary was born on August 14, 1934, in Barronett, WI to Fred and Margaret (Peterson) Webb. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from UW River Falls. Mary married her high school sweetheart, Melven D. Nelson on June 2, 1956, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cumberland, WI.
Mary was a member of Holy Family Parish in Arcadia. She had taught elementary school in Arcadia and Elk Creek, WI. She was a Charter member of the Arcadia Lioness Club where she served in many offices; she enjoyed playing bridge and golfing. Mary and Mel also loved to travel, packing the five kids into the station wagon, exploring every corner of the nation. After the kids were grown, they spent several months a year traveling the US or relaxing at their cottage.
Mary is survived by her 5 children: Sue (Steve) Greenway of Cumberland, WI, Greg (Kristi) Nelson of Rice Lake, Bruce (Anne) Nelson of Prior Lake, MN, Aaron (Jill) Nelson of Weston, WI, Brad (Amy) Nelson of Thornton, CO; 9 Grandchildren: Miles, Caitlin, Katie, Maggie, Amanda, Jon, Jake, Wesley, and Whitney; 2 great grandchildren: Lily Fredrickson and Jackson Nelson; and 1 brother: Earl (Dottie) Webb of Hayward, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mel, on Dec. 5, 2010, and 3 brothers: Fred, George and Second Lieutenant William L. Webb.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015, at 12:00 PM (noon) at Holy Family Parish with Rev. Sebastian Kolodziejczyk officiating. Friends may call on Friday from 10:30 AM until the time of services at the church. Burial will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015, at the Oakwood Cemetery in Berlin, WI, at 11:00 A.M. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
