Mary Haines

June 2, 1929 — March 10, 2015

Mary Ann Haines passed away at Tri-County Memorial Hospital in Whitehall, WI on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at the age of 85.
Mary was born June 2, 1929, one of eight children born to Edward and Lina (Ehlenz) Bower in Waseca, MN. Mary, being one of the oldest children, helped raise her siblings when her parents died a few years apart at a young age.
Mary graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Waseca and went on to earn her nursing degree from Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea in 1950. After school she worked in California for one year after which she returned to Waseca to work in the local hospital. It was here that she met Jack Haines. They were married on June 13, 1953, in Waseca. She continued her nursing career working at various hospitals. Before she retired she worked for Tri-County Mental Health and was a staunch advocate for mental health services in Trempealeau County.
Mary enjoyed playing bridge and played with a local bridge club for many years. She especially enjoyed golfing in the women's golf league and at one time served on the board of the Arcadia Country Club. She and Jack spent many winters in Arizona golfing and enjoying the sun. Spring often found Mary tending her roses and planting flowers on her deck. At times she also assisted with flower planting at the golf course.
Mary frequently returned back to Waseca to be with her sisters, this always was a very special time. She especially looked forward to the annual July 4th gathering. She so much loved her children and grandchildren.
Mary is lovingly remembered by her husband: Jack Haines of Arcadia; children: Jim (Bea) Haines of Pepin, WI , Andy ( Michelle) Haines of North Creek, WI., Barb ( Chris Melkovitz ) Haines of Wauwatosa, WI and John Haines of Hudson, WI. She has nine grandchildren: Jessica (Lewis) Casselius, Rachel (Pete) Riegraf, Emily, Jack and Mary Melkovitz, Kyle and Nate Haines and Alexa and Madyson Haines. One great grandchild: Brayden Casselius.
She is survived by 5 sisters: Bonnie Kastner, Jane Sybilrud, Helen Berry, Barb Kritzer and Gloria McCloon. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Jim Bower and Tom Bower.
