Louise Salwey

Louise A. Salwey, 87, of Waumandee, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully under the care of St. Croix Hospice at her home, on Saturday, August 5, 2023. She was born on November 6, 1935, to Daniel and Selma (Engel) Piel in Fountain City, WI.

Louise married George Salwey on November 29, 1958, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fountain City. Together the couple farmed in Waumandee Valley, and from this union they raised 3 sons: Joseph, Thomas and George.

She had a strong faith and was a member of the PCCW at St. Boniface Catholic Church.

Louise enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, and putting puzzles together. A highlight of hers was making homemade candy during the opening weekend of deer hunting with her daughters-in-law and granddaughters. Louise also enjoyed taking trips to the casino with local banks.

In their retirement, George and Louise began traveling, mostly by motorcoach, throughout a good part of the United States, so they could see the countryside.

Louise is survived by two sons: Tom (Cindy) Salwey and George A. Salwey of Waumandee, daughter-in-law: Marcy Salwey of Waumandee, three grandsons, three granddaughters and 2 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; son, Joseph Salwey; siblings, Armin (Eileen) Piel, Fern (Arvin) Reglin, and Velma (Kenneth) Gallagher.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 14, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waumandee, with Father Doss officiating. Friends and family are invited to the visitation on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waumandee from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Then also from 10:00 AM until the time of services on Monday, July 14, 2023. Louise will be laid to rest in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
