Irene G. Fernholz, 99, of Arcadia, died Friday April 4, 2014, in her home. Irene was born, October 20, 1914, to August and Frances (Pyka) Lisowski in Bow Island, Alberta, Canada. Irene married Vernon C. Fernholz on April 28, 1941. Vernon preceded her in death on August 25, 1979.
Irene farmed with her husband in Glencoe Valley until retiring in 1971. At this time they moved to Arcadia. In retirement Irene enjoyed playing cards and belonging to many clubs. She volunteered for RSVP, making many daily calls to home bound seniors. She volunteered many hours at Church, Nursing Homes, and Glencoe Senior Citizens. Grandma Irene was always willing to help in any way she could for family and friends. Everyone was welcome at her house with fresh baked goods ready to be shared.
Irene is survived by her children: Lee Roy (Sharon) Fernholz, Vernon (Iva) Fernholz, Mary Jane (Jess) Veraguth, Karen Solberg ( special friend Robert Valdespino), and Karl (Donna) Fernholz; 10 grandchildren: Greg (Amy) Fernholz, Scott (Pam) Fernholz, Jodi (Craig) Kirchenwitz, Jeff (Marcia) Fernholz, Pam (Bob) Thielen, Pat (Teresa) Veraguth, Lisa Braaten, Brad Veraguth, Larry (Jenny) Solberg, and Klara (Jerry) Fahnel; 20 great grandchildren: a brother-in-law, Alvin (Clarice) Fernholz; 2 sisters - in - law: Sr. Catherine Fernholz and Theresa Melesko ; and many nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; a great granddaughter MacKayla Fernholz, 3 brothers: Edward (Margaret) Lisowski, Emil (Vi) Lisowski, and Frank (Shirley) Lisowski: a sister Marion (Harry) Swartling, and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday April 9, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Parish in Arcadia, WI. Rev. Sebastian Kolodziejczyk will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's cemetery in the Township of Glencoe rural Arcadia. Friends may call from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday April 8, 2014, at the Wozney-Killian Funeral Home. A rosary will be held at 7:30 PM. Friends may also call from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Wednesday at Holy Family Parish in Arcadia. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Holy Family Parish in Arcadia, or Winona Hospice Services.
