Gerald "Jerry" E. Myers, age 89, of Arcadia, passed away surrounded by those he loved on Saturday, December 12, 2015.
George E. Myers was born on November 6, 1926, in the city of Wabeno in Forest County Wisconsin to George W. and Alice (Schmelling) Myers. He attended schools in Newald and Crandon.
Like his father (WWI veteran) and brothers (WWII & Korean war veterans), Jerry served active military duty in the US Marine Corps during WWII in Quantico, VA, and attended baking school there. On December 25, 1945 he married Kathryn "Tiny" Cunningham. To this union were born three sons: Michael, Patrick, and Gerald Jr. Jerry purchased the bakery from the Paetow family in 1949. Kathryn passed away on June 19, 1962. He then married Jeanette Kokott on January 28, 1963. They had two sons: Thomas and Allen.
Jerry was very civic minded, having served on the Trempealeau County Board for two terms, the Arcadia City Council for two terms, City of Arcadia Water Commission for 19, years, St. Joseph Hospital Board for nine years - and served as their only Lay President, he was a charter member of the Arcadia Country Club, and a charter member of the Arcadia Lion's Club where he served for several years as President. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Jerry is survived by his sons Michael (Rita) Myers, Patrick (Roxanne) Myers, Thomas (Cindy) Myers, Allen (Dana) Myers, several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, sister Eileen DeNoble of Rhinelander, and loyal, fluffy pup Ko. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Kathryn, his wife Jeanette, son Gerald Myers Jr., and brothers George and Burdette Myers.
Friends may call from Noon until 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 19, 2015, at Christ Lutheran Church in Arcadia, WI. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Jonas officiating. Burial will be held at Glencoe Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Glencoe.
