LA CROSSE/ARCADIA, Wis/WINONA, Minn - Dorothy R. Myers, 94, of Hillview Healthcare Center, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015 while surrounded by her loving family and the special staff members of Hillview.
She was born May 1, 1920 in Marshland (Bluff Siding), Wis. to John and Cecelia Kukowski.
Dorothy married Wilmer "Fuzzy" Myers in 1945 and they had three children together - Anita, John and Lydia. They lived in Arcadia, Wis. and operated a flower shop that was later sold. Upon sale, they purchased and resided in the Burlington Hotel in Alma, Wis. He later passed away in 1956.
She later married William "Billy" LaSater, where they moved to Mankato, Minn. Together they had two sons, James and Patrick. They owned a successful painting company, LaSater Decorating, throughout the 1960's. They divorced in 1969.
Dorothy then began waitressing at the well-renowned Michael's of Mankato and owned and operated several rental properties. Upon her retirement in the early 1980's, she moved to Winona. She then moved to Arcadia from the late 1990's to mid 2000's before finally settling in the La Crosse area.
In her earlier years, along with being valedictorian in high school, her other talents included sewing, the arts (ie: drawing and painting), playing accordion, violin, piano and French horn. She would sometimes sub for the well-known Ernie Reck band.
Dorothy was enjoyed gardening, flowers, baking, her Polish heritage, bird-watching and fishing, but her greatest passion was traveling to visit family and friends.
She was raised a devout Catholic who practiced her faith by celebrating the observations and traditions, and rarely missed Mass.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brothers, sisters, son Patrick and close friends - Bernice, Vera and Eva.
Those left to remember her with love include four children, Anita Myers of Colorado Springs, CO, John (Angie) Myers of San Diego, CA, Lydia (Glenn) Aguilar of Colorado Springs, CO, Jim LaSater of La Crosse, WI; two grandchildren, Barbara (Jerry) Metzger of Las Vegas, NV, Jen LaSater of La Crosse, WI; one great-grandchild, Travis Metzger; and many special nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24, at Holy Family Parish in Arcadia with Father Sebastian officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Arcadia on May 2, 2015.
