Dodo was proud to be a long-time member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Arcadia. Her faith meant a lot to her and she was always willing to help at church. Dodo also was an active member in the community and volunteered for many organizations. She was a member of St. Anne's Altar Society: American Legion Auxillary for 62 years: volunteered at the nursing home since 1977, receiving the 2012 Benedictine Manor Volunteer of the Year award: on the Arcadia Library Board for six years and volunteered for 35 years at St. Aloysius/Holy Family Catholic School. Dodo and Gile owned the Herrick Skogmo Store located in the Massuere Building in Arcadia from 1962 until retiring in 1977 (Gile started working in the store when he was in his teens) . The store, along with the Ben Franklin Dime store, Gambles Hardware store and a grocery store were in the same building, a precursor to today's shopping malls. In their store they sold shoes, men's, women's and children's clothing, bedding and fabric.
