Daniel "Butch" Abts

October 8, 1943 — September 3, 2022

Daniel “Butch” C. Abts, 78, of Arcadia, died on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

Butch was born in Arcadia on October 8, 1943, to George and Margaret (Zeller) Abts.  After graduating from high school, Butch enlisted into the Wisconsin National Guard.  He was united in marriage to Patty Pierzina on August 18, 1984, at Fagernes Lutheran Church, rural Blair.  Butch was employed as a Ready-Mix driver, but also did many concrete side jobs for anyone who asked.  Butch proudly volunteered with the Arcadia-Glencoe Fire Department, serving 24 years before his retirement.  He was a member of Holy Family Parish and the American Legion Post #186.  When he wasn’t working, Butch enjoyed socializing with others in the community, bowling in leagues and tournaments, and partaking in outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, gardening, and woodworking.  Most of all, Butch loved to spend time with his family and grandsons, for whom he adored.  His heart of gold and willingness to serve his community will be forever cherished by his loved ones.

Butch is survived by his loving wife, Patty; daughter: Analita (Curtis) Platteter; grandsons: Liam and Wyatt Platteter; sisters: Mary Lou (David) Sobotta, Jane Abts, and Carmen Ver Hagen; sister-in-law: Luz Marie Abts; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: William (Shirley) Abts, Eugene Abts, Melvin (Luella) Abts, Moraine (Mike) Suchla, Dawn (Bud) Kostner, Catherine (Orville) Brennen, Evelyn (Clifford) Laehn and Margie (Franklin “Eli”) Andre-Rumple; father and mother-in-law: Eugene and Evelyn Pierzina; and brothers-in-law: Ray Ver Hagen, Wayne Pierzina, and Kevin Pierzina.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2022, at Holy Family Parish, Arcadia, with Father Kyle Laylan officiating.  Family and friends are invited for visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at church.  Burial with military honors presented by the Tickfer-Erickson Post #17 will be in Calvary Cemetery.  To express condolences to his family online, please visit: www.wozneykillianfh.com.
