Carmen A Kuss

Carmen Ann Kuss, 80, of Arcadia, Wi, passed away at home after a courageous and unwavering journey with cancer on April 3, 2026.

Carmen was born on April 29, 1945, in Arcadia, Wi to Rudolph and Cecelia (Sobish) Sydlo. She grew up on the ridge near Arcadia and attended school also in Arcadia. After graduating high school, she moved to Milwaukee to attend college where she met and married Charles Kuss on June 5, 1965. They welcomed a son named Tim and then moved back to Fountain City, Wi. They then had a daughter named Linda. Carmen worked at Watkins in Winona. She later attended WWTC where she got a degree in graphic design and photography and worked in the school newspaper. She ended her working life at TRW in Winona, Mn. After 1 year of retirement, she decided that was not the life for her, and she started volunteer driving for Trempealeau County Aging and Disability. Carmen loved driving and helping people so much that she would drive sometimes 7 days a week and many times 2 or 3 different people a day. After 17 years of volunteer service, Carmen received a governor's award for volunteer service. Even though it was her 1st time with cancer, she kept driving as much as she could.

Carmen loved camping and spending time with her chickens when she had them. She loved giving her great-grandson, Caiden, rides in the lawn mower. And having tea parties with her great-granddaughter, Zoey, and her dog, Minxee.

Carmen is survived by her daughter, Linda Kuss; daughter-in-law, Dawn Kuss; grandchildren, Samantha (Josh) Simpson, Jesse Parker, Brittany, Jacob and Jeremiah Kuss; great-grandchildren, Caiden Merchlewitz and Zoey Simpson; and nieces, Tami and Bonnie Pawlak.

Carmen was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Cecelia Sydlo; brother, Victor Sydlo; sisters, Louise Sydlo and Armella Pawlak; and her son, Tim Kuss.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Creek, Wi, with Reverend Kyle Laylan officiating. Family and friends are welcome for visitation in the church fellowship hall from 11 a.m. until the time of Mass. Carmen will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
