Alethea E. Waldera, 99, of Trempealeau passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016, at Pigeon Falls Health Care Center in Pigeon Falls, WI.
Alethea was born on November 25, 1916, in Waumandee, Wisconsin to John and Margaret (Rotering) Schlesser. She graduated from Arcadia High School, class of 1935. On October 25, 1941, Alethea married Edmund M. Waldera at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia. Following their marriage, she and Eddie initially resided in Winona, MN, and later moved to Fox Coulee, near Centerville, where they operated a dairy farm. In 1978 they retired and moved to Trempealeau.
Alethea was a member of St. Bartholemew Catholic Church in Trempealeau, and also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid quilter, loved making strawberry jam, bread and other baked goods. She was a very loving, generous person, and extremely devoted to her faith and family. Family gatherings included a seemingly endless supply of food, prepared with many vegetables harvested from her beautiful gardens. She was adamant that those who visited never left hungry.
Alethea is survived by her 4 children: Michael (Mary) Waldera of Trempealeau, Nancy (Victor) Tuschner of Dodge, Doris (Roger) Daggett of Onalaska, and Rita Boland of Independence; 8 grandchildren: Tanya (Jim) Verse, John (Irene) Tuschner, Julie (Donald) Havlicek, Jeni Tuschner, Michael (Pixie) Daggett, Carrie Daggett, Bob Boland, and Brad (Kim) Boland; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and sister-in-law: Marcella Schlesser of Galesville. She was preceded in death by her husband: Eddie on May 7, 1999; grandson: Todd; son-in-law: Rick Boland; siblings: Esther Stanislawski, Irvin Schlesser, Mary "Maggie" Engler, Elizabeth "Susie" Jaszewski, Johanna Schlesser and Marvin (in infancy).
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 11:00 AM at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Trempealeau with Father Antony Joseph officiating. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Wozney-Killian Funeral Home in Arcadia, where there will be a 7:00 PM Rosary; they may also call on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Trempealeau.
