Mary Lou Halvorsen, 74, of Arcadia died on Monday July 1, 2013, peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mary Lou was born on March 15, 1939, in Blair, WI to Lucian and Mary Etta (McCoy) Amundson. Mary Lou graduated from Blair High School. She married Paul Halvorsen on November 30, 1957, at Zion Lutheran Church in Blair.
After marrying, Mary Lou and Paul moved to Stillwater, MN, where Paul worked for Bluff City Lumber and Mary Lou worked for Merchant's Bank. They moved to Arcadia in 1964, where they started a family and purchased Halvorsen Lumber Co. in 1974.
Mary Lou enjoyed being on the river, reading, golfing, and spending time with friends and family.
Mary Lou was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the WELCA. She was a charter member of Wisconsin's First Lioness Club, serving as the inaugural President in 1976. In 1999, Mary Lou and Paul were the first Fest Masters for the Arcadia Broiler Dairy Days. She volunteered for the Miss Arcadia Pageant, was a member of the Ladies Golf League and enjoyed time with her Birthday Club.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband Paul, daughter, Kay (William) Happel of Galesville, two sons, Jeff (Sara) Halvorsen of Arcadia and Erik (Kelly) Halvorsen of Trempealeau, 8 grandchildren; Jeffrey, Cole, Allison, Casey, Treyce, Charlie, Sidney and Miranda, sister-in-law, Alice Amundson of Minneapolis and nephew, Wallace Amundson of Milwaukee. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Richard, Wallace and Donald.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Christ Lutheran Church with Rev. Peter Jonas officiating. Friends may call at the Wozney-Killian Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. They may also call on Saturday at the church from 1:00 PM until the time of services.
