Florence Mae Boland, age 90, of Arcadia, found eternal peace on Sunday April 10, 2016, at the WI Veterans Home in Chippewa Falls, WI. She was the only child of William J. Tierney and Ella (Ramelow) Tierney and grew up on the Tierney homestead in Irish Valley, Waumandee, Wisconsin.
She attended a one room school in Lower Irish Valley and graduated from St. Boniface Catholic School and Arcadia High School. As a young woman she worked for the U.S. Treasury Department in Chicago IL.
Florence married William T. Boland Sr. at St. Boniface Catholic Church on May 6, 1946, and together they farmed on the Tierney Homestead and were parents to nine children: Nancy (Donald) Bernstein of Franklin, WI, William (Pam) Boland Jr. of Arcadia, Terry (Laurie) Boland of Merillan, WI, James Boland of Independence, John Boland of Arcadia, Timothy (Susan) Boland of Madison, Cynthia (Michael) Hartman of Mendota, IL and the late Patrick and Dean Boland. She was a grandmother and a great- grandmother of many and is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Ruth Tormey of Madison, and Joan Boland of Arcadia. Her husband, Bill proceeded her in death on Oct. 7, 1989.
Florence will be remembered for her warm smile, and love of playing cards, socializing, crossword puzzles and was proud of her Irish Heritage. She was a charter member of Garden Valley Homemakers, VFW, The Purple Heart of La Crosse, and Legion Auxiliary, of America Legion Post 17.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Parish with Rev. Sebastian Kolodzieczyk, friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 AM until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, rural Arcadia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the WI Humane Society, and masses given in Florence's name.
Pallbearers will be: Mathew and Michael Hartman, Nickolas Boland, Dustin Phennig, Solomon Maman and Jeremy Bufford.
