Eunice Arnold

February 13, 1922 — July 10, 2012

Eunice Arnold, 90, of Arcadia, WI, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Tri-County Memorial Hospital in Whitehall, WI. Up until this month, Eunice has been living in the family home in Arcadia, with her daughter Marie and two grandsons, Tristan and Trace, that she and her family had been living in since it was built by her husband in 1950.
Eunice was born on February 13, 1922, in Mineral Point, WI, to Curtis and Margaret (Hendrickson) Mottley. Her parents were depression era farmers, working several farms in the Mineral Point/Darlington WI area. Her personal values were strongly influenced by growing up in a strong Catholic household during the depression. She graduated from Darlington High School in 1939, and then obtained a Business Education Degree from Whitewater Teachers College in 1943, and began her teaching career at the Arcadia High School, working as a full time teacher until her marriage. She married Melvin "Oakie" Arnold of Arcadia WI on September 14, 1946, in Darlington, WI. After being married, Eunice was briefly employed as a bookkeeper at Bornstead Implement and did the bookwork for Arnold Construction, first for her father-in-law, Otmer Arnold, then working with her husband until the Arnold Construction Company was sold in 1967. Following that Eunice worked part time jobs in the Arcadia area, but she was especially busy helping her children through college. They all eventually made it through college, even if some took a little longer than normal. Throughout her time in Arcadia, Eunice also taught substitute classes at the Arcadia Catholic School.
Eunice was a devout member of Holy Family Catholic Parish, the PCCW, and the former Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and St. Anne's Rosary Society, the Hospital/Nursing Home Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Throughout her life, before and after coming to Arcadia, Eunice established many close personal friendships which lasted a lifetime. She greatly enjoyed the company of her family and her friends, and participated in many family, church, and community activities as long as she was able. She especially loved playing cards with friends. She also appreciated help from neighbors, friends and family over the years as it became more difficult to move around.
She is survived by her sons, Eugene (Ivy) Arnold of Kent, WA, Gary Arnold of Dayton, OH, James (Barbara) Arnold of Coal City, IL, Mitchel (Suzie) Arnold of Littleton, CO, Mark (Debra) Arnold of Lodi, WI, and Bill (CeCe) Arnold of Pewaukee, WI; daughters, Marie (Roberto) Jasso of Arcadia and Margaret "Margi" Arnold of Denver, CO; 9 grandchildren, Brittany, Brad, Doug, Jill, Jayne, Anna and Jonathan Arnold, and Tristan and Trace Weihrouch; and 2 great-grandchildren, Will and Whitney Arnold.
Eunice was preceded in death by her husband Oakie in 2000; her mother, Margaret; her father Curtis; her brothers, Francis "Chub" Mottley and Bob Mottley; and her sister, Dorothy Ehrich. Eunice's youngest brother, Richard died in infancy in 1933, and her older sister, Catherine, died at the age of 13 in 1934.
