Carmen Theresa Killian, 86, of Arcadia died at her home on February 16, 2017. Carmen was born on August 26, 1930, in Arcadia to Lawrence and Theresa (Schlesser) Rotering.
Carmen grew up on the farm on Canada Ridge Road in Waumandee. She attended Upper Eagle Valley School, O.L.P.H. Parochial School, graduated from Arcadia High School. She graduated from St. Teresa College in Winona and did her graduate work at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and Winona State University. Carmen taught for 36 years in the Business Education Department at Arcadia High School, retiring in 1988. Carmen married John C. Killian on August 22, 1955, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia. Together Carmen and John farmed in rural Arcadia. Carmen enjoyed her vegetable and flower garden (growing more that they could use).
Carmen was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and St. Ann's Rosary Society, St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, where she had served as President for many years, a member of the Trempealeau County Retired Educators, a member of the Arcadia Historical Society. Carmen had been in charge of the "Love Lights" at Christmas for many years.
Carmen is survived by many nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Maxine. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: John on April 1, 2007; her sister: Rosella Burfeind; her three brothers: Willard, La Verne and Lloyd "Bud" Rotering.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Arcadia Historical Society with Reflections of Carmen at 12:00 PM. Lunch will follow at the Historical Society. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, rural Arcadia, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers Carmen preferred memorials to: Arcadia Historical Society, St. Joseph's Cemetery or Arcadia Catholic School.
