Bernice J. Matchey, 93, of Arcadia, died on January 11, 2023, at Marinuka Manor in Galesville. Bernice was born in Independence on February 17, 1929, to John and Frances (Bisek) Micek. She was united in marriage to Alphonse “Allie” Matchey on July 1, 1946, at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Independence. Allie preceded Bernice in death on November 24, 1978. Bernice was a member of Holy Family Parish and the PCCW.
Bernice was an amazing cook and baker and catered many weddings, anniversary parties and other gatherings throughout the years. She always had something baking or prepared in her home whenever anyone would stop over to visit. She loved spending time with her family and had a special bond with her great-granddaughter, Kalie. Whether it be a phone call, lunch date or drives to an appointment or just around town, the memories shared will always be treasured and never forgotten.
Bernice is survived by her daughters: Bonita (David) Foster, Ruth (Ross) Horn, and Sue (Bob) Losinski; grandchildren: Kristie (Randy) Klonecki and their children: Dalton (Allisha) Jeske and Kalie Klonecki, Michelle (Eric) Decker, Sherry (Luke) Dehitjar and their children: Lydia and Lucy, Eric (Melissa) Losinski and son: Ethan, and Matt Losinski; a special niece: Jane Holen; and many other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allie; son: Randy; daughter-in-law: Marlene (Schmidtknecht) Matchey brothers: Adolph, George, and John; sisters: Margaret, Loretta, Dorothy, Esther and Joan; grandson: Scott Matchey; and step-great-grandson: Brad Klonecki.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2023, at Holy Family Parish with Father Kyle Laylan officiating. Family and friends are welcome for visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be held at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Arcadia.
