Marian Gertrude Gandera, 85, of Arcadia died on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Marinuka Manor in Galesville. Marian was born on November 12, 1931, in the town of Arcadia to Joseph and Amelia (Shepard) Filla.
Marian graduated from Arcadia High School. She married John J. Gandera on August 31, 1953, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Independence. She and John farmed in North Creek. After John's death in 1971, she and her brother-in-law, Octie, farmed the family farm along with her four daughters. Marian was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and was very active in the church and the rosary society. She later joined Holy Family Parish in Arcadia. Marian worked as a cook for the Arcadia Day Care, Arcadia School District, and did catering with her relative, Martha Filla. Marian and Martha catered many weddings and community events. She never wanted anyone to leave her home hungry. Marian enjoyed baking, shopping, nice clothes, and had energy that no one else could keep up with. Marian was very proud of her daughters; all 4 girls have college degrees and wonderful families.
Marian is survived by her 4 daughters: Barbara(Thomas) Tock of Arcadia; Joan (Michael) Fry of Woodbury, MN; Sue (Bill) Christ of Independence; Marilyn (Kevin) Whalen of Arcadia; 7 grandchildren: Mitchel (Jacquelyn) Tock, Nathan Tock, Brian (Kaitlin) Christ, Kaycee (Glen) Pronschinske, Reid (special friend, Jenna) Christ, Geena Whalen, Greg Whalen; and 2 great grandchildren: Rubee and Tate Pronschinske; niece and nephews: Carol Bawek, Bob, Gary, Jeff and Terry Filla. She was preceded in death by her husband: John on June 26, 1971; her brother: Ray Filla; and her sister: Theresa Soppa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM (Noon) on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in North Creek, rural Arcadia, with Rev. Sebastian Kolodziejczyk officiating. Friends may call on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery after Mass. Wozney-Killian Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
