Leonard A. Pierzyna, 83, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Benedictine Manor of Arcadia, after suffering a long, courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Leonard was born into a loving family on October 20, 1931, in Arcadia, WI to John and Amelia (Kupietz) Pierzyna. His "second Mother" was his aunt Madeline Klein. He spent much of his teenage years helping and being part of the Klein family. As a young man Len served in Korea with the U.S. Army Canine Corps 8125 Sentry Dog Detachment. He married Ruth Bautch on June 29, 1957, at St. Stanislaus Catholic. Len was employed by Riverland Energy, (Trempealeau Electric) from July 29, 1957, to April 30, 1993, as a Lineman and then as Operations Manager. He received the Herman Pothast Award in 1993. This award is the Wisconsin's highest safety award given to a lineman working with high voltage electricity. Len also was recognized by the Chamber of Commerce, receiving the Cornerstone of Service, having spent many hours volunteering at Franciscan Skemp Hospital and Nursing Home-Arcadia.
In addition to volunteering Len had many other interests. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching draft horse pulls, the Badgers, Brewers, and the Green Bay Packers. Len was especially proud of having attended the Green Bay - Dallas, "Ice Bowl," in January, 1967.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Arcadia, son, Scott (Roxanne), of Red Wing, MN, grandchildren; John, Katherine, Amanda, Scott Jr., and twins Jacob and Zachary, great grandchildren Joshua, Evey, and Milo, his sister Marion Klonecki, of Arcadia, brothers Richard of Arcadia and Ron of LaCrosse. Preceding him in death were his parents, daughter Kathleen and brother, Jerome, "Chief."
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Parish with Rev. Kolodziejczyk officiating. Friends may call at the Church on Wednesday from Wednesday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery with Military Rites by Tickfer-Erickson Legion Post 17 and VFW Post 10671.
